Abstract

453,439. Trouser presses and stretchers. DAVIDSON, W. A., Arthurstane, Fairmilehead, Edinburgh. March 9, 1935, No. 7400. [Class 141] In a combined trouser press and stretching device, the stretching device is adapted to be moved towards and away from the press by means of a rack-and-pinion device, the pinion being mounted on one of the boards of the press, and engaging with a rack bar slidably mounted on the said board, and connected at one end to the stretching device. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the rack-and-pinion device comprises a double pinion, the smaller pinion 7 of which engages with a rack 6 formed on the rack bar 3 while the larger pinion 8 engages a rack 9 formed on a manually actuated rod 10 with which coacts a spring-actuated detent 12 adapted to engage with one of a series of notches 13 in the rod 10, the stretching device 2 being movable away from the base board 1 of the press against the action of a spring 11. In a modification, only one pinion 15, Fig. 2, is employed which engages with teeth formed in the rack bar 16, and with teeth formed in the manually actuated rod 17. In this construction, the base board is formed of two parts 18, 19, connected by hinges 20, and the rod 17 is also formed of two members hinged at 21.
