453,148. Testing thermostaticallycontrolled valves. MAIN, Ltd., R. & A., WORTLEY, G. W., and ROBINSON, H. N., Gothic Works, Falkirk. March 5, 1935, No. 6955. [Class 135] A method of testing thermostatically-controlled valves consists in setting up the valve in a fluid circuit so arranged that the valve will control the passage of the fluid and that the extent of its control will be indicated or measured by means of a pressure gauge, flow indicator or like instrument and for each setting of the thermostat adjusting device subjecting the thermo-sensitive element to heat sufficient normally to close the valve and observing or recording the response of the instrument aforesaid to the action of the valve. The Figure shows one arrangement of apparatus. The inlet and outlet connections 20, 21 are connected respectively to a compressed air supply pipe 22 and to a pipe leading to a pressure gauge 24, said pipe being fitted with an adjustable leak-off 25. The thermo-sensitive element 18 is housed in a small oven 10, heated by a gas burner 11 provided with a pilot burner 15 and controlled by a valve 13 operable by a pedal 14. The supply of compressed air is controlled by a valve automatically opened when the valve is placed in position. The oven may have an electric heater.
