Abstract
452,392. Sinking shafts. SOC. DES CHARBONNAGES DE FAULQUEMONT, 12, Rue de la Rochefoucault, Paris. Dec. 2, 1935, No. 33330. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1934. [Classes 68 (i) and 85] A shaft sunk by the freezing process is provided with a lining lighter than a normal lining, the ground 5 immediately around the lining is thawed while a continuous outer wall 6 of frozen ground is maintained, and water is removed from the thawed ground into which, after washing, cement is injected. The draining, washing and cementing are effected in steps from above downwards. The lining comprises metal segments 2 and concrete 4. Preferably, during thawing, freezing is continued through the holes 1 so that the outer wall 7 of the frozen ground is moved outwardly. Thawing is effected by circulating in the shaft a current of air which may be heated. For draining, washing and cementing, pipes 9 are threaded into openings in the segments 2, each pipe 9 having a valve 10 adapted to permit passage of a drill, and also a cock for connection of a pressure gauge. The pipes 9 at the same level are then connected to piping 12 connected to vertical pipes 13, 14, and provided with valves 20, 21, 22; pipe 13 is open above and has below a valve 15 and a flexible terminal 16, while pipe 14 is provided below with a cock 17 and above with branches 18 for connection by pipe 19 to a water or cement receptacle.
