Abstract

183,536. Stromborg, O. April 18, 1921. Dams and stoppings. - Temporary structures suitable for preventing seepage and escape of petroleum &c. in excavations are formed from a body of ice or frozen liquid formed around a refrigerating conduit 15 adapted to act as a reinforcement for the frozen body and are provided with supplementary reinforcements 16 extending throughout the frozen mass. A yielding wall of fabric 17 may be provided for confining the liquid to be frozen. Fig. 13 shows a frozen structure arranged in the path of a stream and anchored against displacement, a wall 22 being formed having a space 23 behind it into which cement &c. may be introduced through a pipe.
