Abstract

451,832. Thermostats. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb 1, 1936, No. 3103. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1935. [Class 64 (ii)] [See also Croup XXXVII] In a thermostat particularly applicable to a refrigerator control switch, an expansible bellows 10 is connected to a bulb 16 containing a vaporizable liquid such as methyl chloride. The bellows is a thin-walled corrugated tube adapted to move a switch-operating lever 17 which carries a member 26 of insulating material such as a phenolic condensation product. The member 26 carries a conical point 30 at the centre of an annular shoulder 31, which engages a recess 32 in the operating face of the bellows If the pressure within the bellows is abnormally high, distortion of the bellows is prevented by engagement of the part 33 with the shoulder 31 Movement of the lever 17 about its pivot 25 carries the spring 21 over its dead-centre position to cause the contacts 18, 19 to close. The tension of the spring 34 and therefore the temperature at which the switch operates, are adjustable by a nut 35 A stop 24 limits the movement of the lever 17. Specification 363,121, [Group XXXVII], is referred to.
