Abstract
Solutions containing the intermediary ferments of metabolism such as Lebedev juice or preparations obtained from it or from other cell material by precipitation at the optimum pH value are purified from proteins by cataphoresis. In an example a solution obtained by diluting Lebedev juice, saturating with carbon dioxide, and dissolving the precipitate in sodium bicarbonate solution, is subjected in a suitable apparatus to a cataphoretic treatment at pH 5. That portion which migrates towards the anode is free from proteins, and may be dried in a vacuum or used as such, preferably with the addition of mild disinfecting agents. The apparatus may have two or more chambers separated by diaphragms of different permeability to the different components of the solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 gives the state of the solution in the example as pH 6. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
