Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling the diazo compound of a 4-nitroaniline substituted by chlorine or bromine in 2-position or in both the 2- and 6-positions with a di-(oxyalkyl) aniline having a methyl group in 3-position, the coupling of diazotized 4-nitro-2-chloroaniline with di-(oxyethyl)-m-toluidine being excluded [see Specification 353,592 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91)]. The products (including the dyestuff 4-nitro-2-chloroaniline --> di-(oxyethyl)-m-toluidine) are suitable for colouring cellulose acetate artificial silk. In examples (1)--(3) the following dyes are described: 4-nitro-2 - bromoaniline, 2 : 6-dichloro- or 2 : 6-di-bromo-4 - nitroaniline --> di - (oxyethyl) - m - toluidine. They give ruby-red and red-brown shades. Specification 274,823, [Class 15 (ii)], also is referred to.
