Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling the diazo compound of 2-aminobenzoic acid or a derivative thereof (1 or 2 mols.) with a di-(acetoacetyl) derivative of benzidine or a 3 : 3<1>-derivative thereof (1 mol.), the diazo compound being selected so that the dyestuff always contains at least one SO3H group. They dye vegetable fibre yellow shades which on after-treatment with a copper compound become very fast to light and washing. In examples the following dyes are described: (1) 4-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid \sQ di-(acetoacetyl)-o-tolidine (greenish yellow on after-treatment with copper sulphate); other components specified are 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid and the diacetoacetyl derivatives of benzidine, dianisidine and 3 : 3<1>-dichlorobenzidine, (2) 4-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> diacetoacetyl-o-tolidine \sM 2-aminobenzoic acid, (3) 5-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid --> diacetoacetyl-o-tolidine.
