Abstract
449,933. Hot water boilers. KILBURN, B. E. D., 31, High Holborn, London.- (Sulzer FrÞres Soc. Anon. ; Winterthur, Switzerland) May 14, 1935, No. 14068. [Class 64 (i)] In a boiler for central - heating systems comprising an outer tubular jacket element 3 and an inner tubular element 4, both water-heating elements are formed by weldable tubing of flattened or oval cross section arranged side byside, with the major cross-sectional axes of the tubes 7 of the jacket in alignment to form an outer wall of the boiler, the inner element being detachable as a unit from the jacket. The internal element is formed of groups of flat tubes 11 arranged edge to edge in vertical planes and are connected by tubes 12 to headers 13, 14. Water is fed in at 1, 2 and withdrawn at 6 from a header 10 connected by pipes 9 with the tubes 7 and by a pipe 15 with the header 14 of inner element. The tubes are seamless or welded from pressed parts. A hollow grate comprising flattened preferably inclined tubes 16 connected preferably in echelon by pipes 21 is connected by pipes 19, 20 to the tubes 7 and forms a third water-heating element, easily removable as a unit. The tubes 12 are preferably contiguous to protect the unjacketed back wall, which may however be formed of oval tubes. The tubes 7 are U-shaped to form the top and side walls, and the water may be heated under pressure to 150‹ C.
