Abstract
In a hearth of a boiler, a panel of parallel vertical tubes 1 constituting a screen along a vertical wall of the hearth and a panel of parallel horizontal tubes 5 constituting a floor or a ceiling are fed from one or two manifolds 4, and are interconnected by connection pieces 2. Each vertical tube 1 is fixed to a corresponding horizontal tube 5 by a respective connection piece 2 which has two tubular bends (7, 10) lying in the same plane, each of which is connected firstly to a horizontal one or a vertical one of the tubes, and secondly to a tube element 3, 6 for connection to the manifold(s) 4. <IMAGE>
Description
A FEED AND CONNECTION SYSTEM IN A BOILER HEARTH FOR PANELS OF
VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL TUBES
The present invention relates to a system in a hearth of a boiler for feeding a panel of parallel vertical tubes constituting a screen along a vertical wall of the hearth and a panel of parallel horizontal tubes constituting a floor or a ceiling from one or two manifolds, and for interconnecting these panels.
In the past, such panels of tubes have been connected by means of notched flats welded firstly to vertical tubes along vertical edges and secondly to bends providing a connection between horizontal tubes and tubular elements for joining to a manifold.
It is difficult to weld such flats properly to the tubes and to the tubular elements, their ability to withstand the high temperatures that exist in the hearth is random, and their reliability is fairly low.
An object of the present invention is to provide a system for feeding such panels and for interconnecting them, which system is easy to weld to the tubes and the connecting tubular elements, and which is kept cool by the fluids flowing along the tubes, thereby withstanding the high temperatures of the furnace well, giving long lifetime and good reliability.
The present invention provides a system in a hearth of a boiler for feeding a panel of parallel vertical tubes constituting a screen along a vertical wall of the hearth and a panel of parallel horizontal tubes constituting a floor or a ceiling from one or two manifolds, and for interconnecting these panels, wherein each vertical tube is fixed to a corresponding horizontal tube by a connection piece having two tubular bends lying in the same plane, each of which is connected firstly to a horizontal one or a vertical one of the tubes, and secondly to a tube element for connection to the manifold(s).
The connection pieces are welded to one another by small diameter sealing washers or by welding together pairs of halffins obtained by forging or by stamping during manufacture of the connection pieces.
A system of the invention is described below by way of example and with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation view of connections between a vertical tube, a horizontal tube, and a manifold;
Figure 2 is a vertical section on a larger scale through the tubular connection piece; and
Figure 3 shows interconnected connection pieces.
In Figure l, a vertical tube 1 is connected to a manifold 4 by a tubular connection piece 2 and by a U-shaped connection tube element 3. The substantially horizontal tube 5 constituting the floor or the ceiling of the hearth is connected to the same manifold 4 by means of the tubular connection piece 2 and a vertical connection tube element 6 (it could alternatively be connected to a different manifold).
Figure 2 is a section showing the tubular connection piece 2 in greater detail, comprising a first tubular bend 7 terminating at one end by a bearing surface 8 for welding to a vertical tube and at its other end by another bearing surface 9 for welding to a tubular connection element such as the element 3 of Figure 1 for connecting it to the manifold.
The second tubular bend 10 is terminated at one end by a bearing surface 11 for welding to a horizontal tube and at its other end by a bearing surface 12 for welding to a vertical connection tube element such as the element 6 in Figure 1.
The e connection pieces for vertical tubes 1 and horizontal tubes 5 lie in parallel planes. They are connected to one another by welding together pairs half-fins 13 obtained by forging or stamping during manufacture of said pieces 2 (see
Figure 3).
These half-fins 13 extend half-fins 14 welded to the vertical tubes 1 and the horizontal tubes 5.
The connection pieces could also be interconnected by means of conventional sealing washers (not shown) which would be welded to facing ones of said junction pieces 2.
