[Class 80 (iii)] [See also Groups XXV and X] A stay for holding a hinged or sliding window, door, or the like in any position comprises a series of collars 8 strung on a flexible wire 7, the collars having a length substantially greater than their diameter and having flat end faces which abut against one another so that the stay is substantially rigid in all directions. The stay is shown combined with operating mechanism for a vehicle windscreen, the upper end of the wire 7 being pivotally attached to the windscreen and the lower end carrying a spring 14 which presses the collars together to make the extended part of the stay rigid but allows the stay to bend round a sprocket wheel 19 operated by worm gear carried on the screen frame, the collars having end flanges between which the teeth of the sprocket engage.
