449,096. Testing friction of driving- belts. GRATRIX, J., 109, Canterbury Road, Davyhulme, Lancashire. Jan. 23, 1935, No. 2186. [Class 106 (ii)] The device comprises a holder 1 in which is mounted a rotatable drum 2, part of the surface of which projects between two friction rollers 6, 6, the device being placed against the belt, the latter rotating the drum against the influence of a spring 4 until slip occurs. If the belt is stationary, the device is moved relatively thereto. The rollers have right-and left-hand spiral grooves to prevent side slip. The spindle 3 of the drum drives through gearing 14, 15, 16, 17 a pointer 12 on a spindle 13 which drives at the other end through gearing 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 a pointer 11 which moves in the opposite direction so that the indication may be seen from either side of the instrument.
