[Class 98 (ii)] The transferring-machine comprises means for applying tension to the tissue, means for protecting the tissue from moisture until the moment of transfer, means for moistening the leading edge of the tissue and pressing it onto the cylinder with a pressure proportional to the width of the tissue, and means for starting the rotation of the roller simultaneously with the moistening. The back of the tissue may also be moistened to facilitate stretching. In the form shown, the printing roller 8, Fig. 1, is carried in bearings in the frame 1 and pressure is applied to it by the rollers 9, 10 controlled by the spring 16 and rod 15 from the hand wheel 11. The tissue is carried on the bed 3 under a tensioning device 5. The movable platform 4 protects the tissue from the moistening device 27 until the roller system is lowered when an abutment 29 on the frame carrying the rollers 9, 10 acts on the rod 30 to operate a rack-and-pinion 6, 7 to withdraw the platform 4. Simultaneously, a contact 18 on the pressure indicator 17 closes a circuit to cause the roller 8 to revolve. The tensioning device comprises parallel rods 141, Fig. 3, carrying a fixed and a movable block 15<1>, 16<1>, each of which is provided with a pin 19<1>, 20, the blocks being pressed apart by a spring 21. In a modification, the tissue is carried by a metal plate having pins engaging sockets on the blocks 15<1>, 16<1>.
