Abstract

448,952. Rotary pumps. LEVETUS, F. B., and KEELING, G. V., M.W. Service Station, Pickford, and BOOTH, E., 95, Butt Lane, both in Allesley, near Coventry. Feb. 4, 1935, No. 3627. [Class 110 (ii)] In a machine of the rotary-abutment type, the capacity of the working chamber is varied by relative motion axially, between the rotor 1 and the abutment 14. The rotor is loosely mounted upon a shaft 3, and is moved axially by a spindle 19 acting through a non-rotatable element 9. A sleeve member 6, keyed to the shaft 3, has slots to accommodate the pistons 5, and also drives the rotor (in the case of a pump). A member 16 is slidably mounted on a shaft 15 and carries a seal 17 which fits into the recess in the abutment. The member 16 is moved by the motion of the element 9. In a modification the rotor does not move, the abutment being displaced axially and a sealing sleeve rotating with the rotor. The rotor and abutment member may both move in opposite directions.
