Abstract

448,786. Audible signalling-apparatus. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and HARRIS, T. A., Great King Street, Birmingham. Dec. 13, 1934, No. 35787. [Class 118 (ii)] A circuit fo: enabling one o: more horns to be sounded loudly o: softly comprises a two-position hand switch and an elec tromagnetically operated switch which normally short - circuits a resistance, the elec tromagnetically operated switch being operated to switch the resistance into the horn circuit when the hand switch is operated to the soft position. The electromagnetically operated switch has a slight delay to allow the full current to pass initially to the horn mechanism. As shown in Fig. 1, when the hand switch a is moved to make contacts l the current passes to the horns over contacts d, e, but when contacts s are closed relay g opens contacts d, e and the resistance c is included in the horn circuit. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, the horn circuit is always closed by magnet armature j. When the loud contacts l are operated, winding i is energized and armature j makes contacts m, k to close the horn circuit. When the soft contacts s are closed, however, winding g attracts armature so that contacts m, k are closed and contacts d, e opened to bring resistance c into circuit.
