[Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (v)] Comprises improvements in transmission gear for locomotives for operating cams actuating separate admission and exhaust valves to facilitate assembling and dismantling the parts, and to prevent leakage of lubricant. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a two-part casing c, d is arranged around a driving-axle a provided with a toothed wheel b in gear with a wheel i on a transmission shaft h. The casing is anchored by a link e, and is provided with split bushes f housed in the end walls. Divided cup-leathers g, which may be backed by springs, are arranged in recesses g<1>, and are divided diametrically on a plane different to that of the division between the parts c, d of the casing. The shaft h is supported by ball or roller bearings. The race l of the right-hand bearing is held against a shoulder m by a cover plate k, and the inner race n is held against the shaft. A cage r holds the rollers or balls. The outer race s of the left-hand bearing is held in a bush t and by a flange on the cover plate. When the plate v is removed, the shaft h is moved axially upon the wheel i being rotated. In a modification with the transmission arranged outside the locomotive driving-wheel, the driving pinion is mounted on a trunnion on a return crank, and the gearing is housed in an undivided casing provided with an aperture covered by a plate which allow the pinion to pass through.
