Abstract
448,139. Cleaning &c. rice &c. CRAIG, T. V., 52, Leadenhall Street, London. Jan. 15, 1935, No. 1397. [Class 58] Grain, such as rice, is brushed, cleaned, or polished in a horizontal stationary drum 1 containing a number of annular brushes 15, adjacent the end into which the grain is fed" and a number of annular felts 16 the edges of the felts, if desired, being provided with a coating or emery powder or other abrasive : the annular brushes or felts are secured on their shaft 12 by radial arms 17 carrying bent sheet metal blades 18 that tend to move the grain towards the delivery end of the drum. A longitudinal strip at the top of the drum is perforated and a suction trunk 19 provided above it, curved dampers 20 being fitted to regulate the distribution of suction along the drum. The grain is fed to the drum along a shaking sieve 7 and escapes through a duct 22 on to a counterweighted inclined plate 24 falling thence into a vertical shoot 25. The upper end of the shoot is connected to the aspiration chamber. The lower part of the drum is perforated to permit the escape of dust and other impurities which fall into drawers 30 or into a screw conveyer. Brushes alone or felts alone may be employed on the rotor and polishing means other than felts may be used.
