Class 59 An almond shelling machine comprises a pair of relatively movable grinding surfaces arranged opposite each other at a constant distance and provided with oppositely directed projections, the grinding surfaces being made at least in part of rubber characterized by the provision of a downwardly extending tube through which shelled almonds and almond shells fall, and over the outlet of which is arranged an upwardly directed suction connection for air. As shown, Fig. 1, almonds to be shelled are fed between relatively moving surfaces 9, 12, from a hopper 4 a preliminary shaking of the nuts taking place in the zone defined by the rotating conical member 24 provided with blades 23. The shells are loosened by the action of the oppositely projecting pins 9 the shells and kernels then falling through the funnel 15 into the tube 16 which serves as a suction tube for the fan 7 since air sucked in by the latter is compelled to flow through the tube 16. The light and airy shells are carried by the air up the tube 18 to be deposited in the container 19 which is removably connected to the mill casing 2. The kernels fall through the opening 17 into the container 20. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the relatively moving surfaces are cylindrical and the container is disposed adjacent the tube 16 whilst the preliminary shaking of the nuts is administered by the cylindrical studded roller 31.
