Abstract

447,856. Heating water. PARKINSON STOVE CO., Ltd., and BARNES, H. V., Stechford, Birmingham. May 11, 1935, No. 13863. [Class 64 (i)] [See also Group XI] A heat transfer unit for gas-fired water heaters is built up from a series of separate gills c, each with an integral flange l extending substantially at right angles at its outer edge and overlapping flanges on adjacent gills, so as to form on assembly a cylindrical or other shell. Each flange is stepped longitudinally outwards a distance equal to the thickness of the metal so that they overlap as shown in Fig. 5. A projecting tongue at the top and bottom of each flange is bent over the adjacent flange. The unit is stamped from brass or copper and when assembled is held temporarily and dipped in molten solder. A water-heating coil j or a water jacket is placed round the unit. Central dished baffles g guide combustion products through the gills. An outer casing a and a coned flue b may be provided.
