447,706. Corset fastenings. CANHAM, A. R., 40, Sheen Lane, East Sheen, Mortlake, London, and VOWLER, E. H. 0., The Firs, Whitton Road, Twickenham, Surrey. April 10, 1935, No. 11125. [Class 141] [See also Group XXV] A corset &c. fastening devoid of unsightly projections comprises a flexible strip 8 provided with long and short slots 9, 10 and corresponding long and short tongues 11, 12, co-operating with a flexible member formed of two superposed flexible strips 1, 2. Strips 1, 2 are centrally connected by a rivet 3 to allow relative sliding movement between the end portions when bending occurs during wear. The strip 2 has lugs 4, 5 which are bent to form bridging pieces 6, 7 between the strips, the ends being bent down over the outer face of strip 1 as shown. Strip 1 has lugs, not shown, serving to keep strips 1, 2 spaced apart. Fastening is effected by inserting tongue 11 between the strips and engaging it with upward movements behind the part 6, the tongue 12 then being passed between the strips and engaged behind part 7 by downward movement. To prevent accidental disconnection the inner edge of tongue 11 may be cut away as indicated in dotted lines to provide a shoulder engaging the lower edge of part 6. Alternatively, a recess may be cut in the inner edge of tongue 12 to receive part 7. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the strips are secured together and spaced apart by shouldered rivets 17, 18 near their ends, the rivets also serving in place of the parts 6, 7 for engagement in slots 9, 10. The rivet 17 is shown as engaged in a slot to allow relative movement on bending. A modification is described in which the parts 1, 2 are formed integrally by folding a blank, slotted to leave connecting webs which also function in place of the parts 6, 7. The fastening members are secured to the corset by suitable means such as stitching, and slots 15, or perforations, not shown, may be provided to facilitate this.
