Abstract

447,319. Golf clubs. BYRNE, E. L. W., 329, High Holborn, London.-(Kroydon Co., Inc. ; Burnett Avenue, Maplewood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Nov. 9, 1934, No. 9042 /36. Divided out of 447,270. [Class 132 (ii)] A golf club has a tubular steel shaft with a tapered end portion to fit a socket in the head and adjoining this a reversely tapered second portior leading to a third portion of uniform diameter. In a modification, the third portion may have a taper in the same direction as the second portion but of less angle. In both forms the third portion may extend to the end of the shaft, and a shoulder may be provided between the portions o: reversed taper. Specifications 447,27( and 447,320 are referred to. The cylindrical shaft may then have a tapered end to take the handle wrapping, or, if cylindrical to the end, has a plug 40 with an enlarged tapered end 41 separated by a groove 42 driven in, a rabbet 43 giving room for a tack securing the usual leather wrapping being provided as well as a threaded projection 45 for a finishing nut.
