Abstract

353,661. Golf clubs. TURNER, J. H., Frilford Heath Golf Club, Abingdon, Berkshire. July 4, 1930, No. 20344. Grant of Patent opposed. [Class 132 (ii).] In a golf-club of the kind in which the socket is formed to receive an externally tapered or reduced portion of a steel shaft, the head is attached to the shaft by a bolt that is inserted into the shaft from the upper end so as to'engage an internally constricted part at the lower end of the shaft, and is screwed into a nut located in a recess in the sole of the club head. As shown in Fig. 2, a bolt 7 having a conical head 7a is screwed into a conical nut 8 that expands the lower split end of the shaft 4 into engagement with the walls of a conical recess in the sole of the club head 2. The head 7a may be elongated and extend to a position above the socket 1 for strengthening purposes. In a modification, Fig. 3, the bolt passes through a conical plug 10 of wood, rubber, or other material, a washer 11 being interposed between the head and the plug. In a further modification, the bolt head engages a washer seated on the rib formed by an annular constriction of the shaft. The nut is formed with a diametral slot to receive a screwdriver.
