Abstract

446,331. Luggage-carriers. KYBURZ, M., Dintikon, Aargau, Switzerland. Nov. 25, 1935, No. 32630. [Class 136 (i)] [See also Group XVII] A luggage-receptacle for attachment to a motor-cycle is of streamline shape ; it is provided with a handle for carrying it when detached, the handle being slidably mounted under spring control so that hooks on its lower ends can engage an attachment bar secured to the stays of the mudguard or usual luggagecarrier, means being also provided for locking the parts to prevent unauthorized removal. As shown, a receptacle formed of sheet metal is mounted on each side of the cycle, and comprises a front wall 2, top 3, and rear wall 4 merging into one another in streamline form. The outer wall forms a cover 5, which is hinged at 6 to the bottom 1, so that it can be opened out into the horizontal position and supported by folding stays 7 to form a tray for use during repairs &c. The bottom 1 of each receptacle is provided with studs 13 adapted to engage holes in an angle-section bar 15 secured to the carrier &c. stays. The vertical arms of a handle 10 slide in guides 9, Figs. 2 and 3, on the back of the receptacle under the control of springs 12, which are adapted to cause hooks 11 to engage the lower edge of a bar 14 also secured to the stays. To detach the receptacle, the handle 10 is depressed to disengage the hooks 11, and the receptacle is then turned forwards and lifted away. The parts are locked in the attached position by a pivoted loop 19 located inside the receptacle (the cover of which may be locked) and adapted to be passed through a hole in the back wall into engagement with a recess 20 in the arm of the handle 10. In the interior of the receptacle is a leather or canvas tool &c. case 22 fitted with a key holder, inner pocket, &c. A sheet-metal strip 21 fixed to the bottom 1 prevents articles from falling out.
