Abstract

446,203. Sorting eggs &c. by weighing. BENZ, J., and HILGERS, W., (trading as BENZ & HILGERS), 246, Munsterstrasse, D³sseldorf, Germany. Jan. 7, 1935, No. 569. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 8, 1935.] [Class 143] In a sorting-machine for eggs and other goods having an intermittently-rotating table or a rectilinearly-moved supporting plate which is lowered and raised to place the eggs on the scales or remove them therefrom, an arresting device is provided to lock the scales in their normal position before the eggs are placed on the scales and after they have been weighed. As shown in Fig. 1, the scales 4 are arranged in a circle on the frame 1 and the eggs 3 are transferred from scale to scale by the intermittently advanced table 2. Locking fingers 7 radially arranged on a common support 8 raised and lowered by a swash plate 9, lock the scales both before the eggs are deposited on the scales and after the weighing operation. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the eggs are conveyed to the scales 11 by a rectilinearly-moving supporting plate 13 which is reciprocated horizontally and also moved up and down. Locking arms 15 loose on a shaft 14 are caused by springs 15<1> to bear against limiting stops 16 attached to the shaft 14. The locking arms are also provided with resilient pusher arms 17, and each scale carries a depending locking member 18. In operation, the limiting stops 16 and locking arms 15 swing to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, and the locking arms bear against the locking members 18 to lock the scale beams. The eggs are now deposited on the locked scales and the stops 16 are swung in an anticlockwise direction to move the locking arms 15 into the position shown by dotted lines whereby the scales are freed for weighing. Scales which are insufficiently loaded to discharge the eggs are restored to normal position on the return movement of the locking arms and damage to the eggs is thus avoided upon the next transferring movement of the plate 13. Eggs of sufficient weight tip the scales completely and are discharged with the assistance of pusher arms 17. Projections 19 on the locking arms prevent a premature return movement of the scales by providing a resting surface for the locking members 18 until the looking arms have returned into their left-hand positions.
