[Class 143] A machine for weighing and, grading fish, fruit, &c. comprises a number of counterbalanced scale beams mounted to move in a continuous path, a pivotally mounted scale pan supported from each scale beam, a doublearmed lever pivoted adjacent each scale pan and a series of spaced stops of graduated height arranged in the path of the levers and adapted when engaged by one arm of a lever to rock the lever causing its other arm to engage and tip the scale pan to discharge the article. The scale beams 10 are carried by a wheel 2 rotated continuously by a motor 6. Arms or cradles 19 suspended from the scale beams support the scale pans 20 on pivots 22 and are prevented from moving laterally by wire links 39. The scale beams carry balance weights 14 adjustable angularly about a pivot 18 and longitudinally by means of nuts 15a. Pivotally mounted beneath each scale pan is a bell-crank lever 24 adapted to co-operate with stops 30 adjustably mounted as regards height upon a stationary support: During grading operations, the fish &c. are fed, singly to the scale pans as these are carried round, and according to the extent of depression of the pans their levers 24 are brought into contact with the appropriate stops 30 (which are at different heights) and are caused to engage and tip the scale pans and thus discharge the fish into appropriate grade bins 32 arranged around the machine. The weighing devices instead of being mounted on a rotary table may be mounted on a conveyer adapted to move in a straight line or other path.
