Abstract
446,003. Communication platforms between vehicles. BUGATTI, E., Molsheim, Bas-Rhin, France. Dec. 2, 1935, No. 33360. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1934. [Class 103 (iv)] A vestibule connection particularly for railway vehicles comprises a belt which overlaps internally or externally the adjacent ends of a pair of vehicles and is connected thereto by elastic fastening means such as one or more elastic cables, bands, or ropes, coiled springs, &c. preferably mounted with an initial tension. The belt may be made of material of low elasticity such as leather, cloth, rubberized cloth, &c. or of an elastic material such as rubber, undue deformation being prevented in the latter case by rigid or unexpansible rods, cables, ropes, &c. Fig. 1 shows one method of connecting the belt 3 to vehicles 1, 2 in which cables &c. 6, 7 are secured to attachment members 4, 5 and 8, 9 such as rings, hooks, buttons, &c. on the belt and vehicles respectively. Other methods include : (a) replacing the cables &c. 6, 7, Fig. 1, by springs ; (b) connecting the members 8, 9, Fig. 1, to the vehicles by springs ; (c) connecting the belt and vehicles directly by a series of separate horizontal springs ; (d) passing the cables &c. alternately over guides such as pulleys. Fig. 14 shows a method utilizing three elastic fastening elements 28, 29, 30, the element 30 having a tensioning-device 31. As shown in Figs. 16, 17 the fastening elements pass around pulleys 32 or 33 disposed adjacent stiffening rods 34 in the belt. Fig. 18 shows a belt in two parts 35, 36 connected by elastic elements 37 which may be arranged to come into operation only when the end fastenings of the belt are under maximum tension. Fig. 20 shows in sectional plan view rods 42 each attached at one end to the belt 3, passing through guides 43 on the vehicles, and carrying at their free ends pulleys 40. In another construction the vehicles have double walls between which the belt is guided. When pulleys are used they may be mounted on spring-pressed rods.
