ABDOMINAL BANDAGE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEF BELTERMANN, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at D No. 4:, Mannheim, Baden, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Abdominal Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to belly-bandages for stout persons especially pregnant women.
The new bandage consists essentially of a non-elastic main portion of washable material corresponding to the contour of the persons body, and elastic stays detachably secured to the main portion and adapted to raise the belly and thus to support the enervated muscles of the belly.
In the accompanying drawing is shown a constructional form of the object of my invention.
a is the main portion of the bandage, b are the elastic stays. The latter consist of several parallel indiarubber-bands which are connected at both ends to common flaps 6 provided with button-holes. The stays Z) are detachably secured to the main portion a by means of a lace c which is passed through eyes 03 provided in the main portion a and around the separate bands of the stays b. The main portion a has connected to its ends two closing straps e and 7 provided with button-holes, and is itself provided with buttons 9 and h. After the main portion a has been put around the body of the person, the closing straps e and f are crossed over the back by drawing the strap 0 through the strap f and then attaching both straps to the buttons 9. The end-flaps b of the stays b are then also attached to the buttons h; for this purpose the stays Z) must be slightly stretched so that the necessary tension is obtained.
It is a great advantageto place the main portion a of the bandage in position without subjecting the same to tension and to give it the necessary'tension by stretching Specification of Letters Patent.

the elastic stays and attaching their ends to the main portion. The detachability of the elastic stays permits of them being easily exchanged and also a thorough cleaning of the main portion without any efi'ect on the stays.
The indiarubber-bands being elastic each in itself and independent of each other, the stays b are adapted to accommodate exactly to the whole bellv with the necessary pressure according to the dilferent muscles of the belly.
The bandage may be provided also with an elastic detachable back buckle of celluloid or the like for straightening purposes.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an abdominal bandage the combination of a main portion of washable material, detachable stays consisting of several parallel indiarubber-bands which are elastic each in itself and independent of each other and connected at both ends to common flaps, means for detachably securing the said bands to the main portion consisting of a lace passed through eyes provided in the main portion and around the separate bands, means for attaching the end flaps of the stays to the main portion consisting of buttons provided on the main portion and e11- gaging with button-holes provided in said end-flaps, and means for attaching the bandage to the body of the person consisting of straps connected to the ends of the main portion and further buttons provided on the main portion and engaging with buttonholes provided in said straps.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J OSEF BELTERMANN.
