Belts.-Relates to extensible V-shaped driving belts of the type comprising links connected by springs the ends of which are contained in spaces between the sides of the links, and comprises an arrangement in which the sides of each link are. connected by a bridge portion 3 providing spaces or a space between them as in an H or channel formation and each link is connected to the adjacent one by two springs 8 the ends of which are separated by the bridge portion, the inner spring at least being disposed in the space between the sides of the link. The springs 8 are formed with eyes or hooks 11 secured to the bridge portions by bolts and nuts 9, the eyes 11 or their extreme ends being bent to function as spring washers and also being arranged so that the longitudinal axes of the springs are normally in alignment. Alternatively, the eyes may be formed in headed shanks around which the ends of the springs may be coiled in conical fashion. When the link is of H formation the upper spring is normally housed between the sides thereof as shown, but when of channel shape the upper springs are unenclosed. The links mav be formed by riveting or bolting, as at 16, side plates 1 of leather, fibre, rubber, or the like to the bridge pieces 3 which may be of similar material or of metal. Alternatively, the side plates and bridge piece may be moulded integrally in rubber, or cast in aluminium or an allov thereof. When the links are of metal, facings of leather, reinforced felt, rubber, &c. may be secured to the side plates preferably by means of stud like projections on the links which are upset over washers combined within suitable recesses in the covering material, or the metal links may run in a lined or faced pulley groove.
