UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTISKID DEVICE.
,Application filed August 11, 1924. Serial No. 731,427.
To all whomit mag/concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. FREE- MAN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Shickshinny, in the county of Luzerne 5 and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and usefiul Improvementsvin Antiskid Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to antiskiddevices for pneumatic tires and its principal object is to provide an antiskid' device which is constructed from a plurality of metal. blanks arranged to present a traction cleat at each side thereof. v
A further object is to provide an antiskid device which includes a plurality of traction elements which are loosely connected together and each of which is stamped from a sheet of metal.
advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter explicitly referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1' is a perspective of an ,antiskid device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure '2 is an outer plan view of one of the traction elements.
Figure 3 is an elevation taken at right. angles to Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is plan view from which the traction elements are formed.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference denote correspondinguparts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates 40 a pair of longitudinal side .chains of conventional construction. My antiskid device With the preceding and other objects and flanges 11 and 12. Additional rings 15 are carried by the outer flanges 12 of the extreme endmost traction element and .are received by certain of the links ofthe chains 5.
From the disclosure it will be manifest that I have provided a simple and inex- 00 pensive antiskid device the independent elements of which are so arranged as to afford a maximum traction surface.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention,it is 55 to be understood that changes in the arrangement of parts may be made and that I am only limited by the appended claim. Having thus described the invention, I claim An antiskid device .comprisinga plurality of antiskid elements, each of which being formed from a blank of cruciform configuration, the blank being formed to provide pairs of flanges which are spaced at the ends thereof, the adjacent end flanges being provided with pairs of alined openings, and rings passing through the openings and disposed between the end flanges and the adjacent side flanges.
In testimony whereof Talfix my si ature.
WILLIAM E,
