Abstract

A medium for cleaning and polishing glass consists of a fibrous material such as cotton waste, impregnated with a mixture of olein, xylol, pine oil, ammonia, powdered limestone, water and denaturated alcohol. Olein is mixed with the pine oil and xylol and ammonia is added. To the resulting dough-like mass water is incorporated and the mixture passed through a sieve. Powdered chalk and methylated spirits are then incorporated and after standing the product is again passed through a sieve and finally mixed with a colouring material. Cotton waste is immersed in this mixture for a short time and then, after removal of surplus liquid by pressing, is dried in a heated chamber or by passing through a heated mangle and stored in air-tight containers or packages.
