Wax-impregnated chalks or crayons are made as follows:-A wax or wax-lined mould is made by an operation including inserting plungers into soft wax and withdrawing the plungers. The chalk material, consisting of a mixture of powdered alabaster and water, is then introduced into the mould and allowed to harden, whereupon the mould with its contents is placed in a heated bath of molten wax, which melts the mould or lining, the chalks becoming impregnated with wax. The filled mould may be placed in a perforated container before immersion of the container and mould into the heated wax bath.
