Description

Patented July 9, 1929.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM E. LANE, F AUBURN, NEW YORK.
LIQUID COMPOSITION FOR AND METHOD 01' TREATING LEATHER.
No Drawing.
This invention relates to a composition for, and method of, treating leather, particularly leather for insoles and consists 1n the novel composition and treatment hereinafter set forth and claimed.
The composition consists of a comparatively weak solution of waterglass or silicate of soda and water and preferably, in addition a small quantity of bluing, the bluing being insufiicientto color the leather.
Preferably, the silicate of soda is diluted in water in the proportion of one part of silicate of soda to nine parts of water and then a small amount of bluing is added, about four liquid ounces to ten gallons of the solution.
In treating the leather, it is dipped in the solution and held therein for about 5 minutes and then taken out and dried in the air.
This solution readily penetrates the leather and also dries thoroughly in the air.
Application filed Kay 11, 1927.- Serial No. 190,659.
This composition and treatment is particu.
larly adapted for leather used in insoles. As will be understood by those skilled in the art, the leather in insoles is comparatively poor quality and its treatment with the glue COIIllJOSllJOIlS heretofore used does not improve the quality to any great extent.
This composition is particularly economical and the leather quickly dries and is made very durable.
What I claim is:
The process of treating tanned leather for insoles and for stifi'ening the same comprising dipping the leather in a weak solution of silicate of soda and water.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name at Auburn, in the county of Cayuga, and in the State of New York,
- this 30th day of March, 1927.
7 WILLIAM E. LANE.
