Abstract

305,249. Galbraith, W. T., and Mills, A. E. Feb. 29, 1928. Plastic compositions containing glue, gum, &c. -An elastic composition consists of 50 lbs. of paper or synthetic, natural, or reclaimed rubber, 50 lbs. of heated vegetable oil, 5 lbs. of synothin, 20 lbs. of gluten, 3 quarts of water-glass, 20 lbs. of glue, 40 lbs. of gum, such as arabin or cerasin, 5 lbs. of asbestos, and 2 lbs. of casein. The mixture is immersed in sulphuric acid or paraffin, washed with ammonia, digested with alcohol and sal ammoniac and dried. The product is rendered non-perishable by treating with sulphur fumes and the addition of shellac; washing in alcohol, acetone and water makes it transparent ; mixing in 3 parts of tannic acid stabilizes the elasticity.
