Abstract

445,762. Supply meters. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. Dec. 6, 1935, No. 33866. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1934. [Class 37] In an excess-consumption meter in which an opposing torque is produced by a spring, a rotary releasing member which is acted upon by the spring 20 is connected through a gear wheel 15 with the meter shaft 1, the shaft of the releasing member being capable of movement about the shaft 14 of gear wheel, so that on the momentary releasing of the member, which results from the overcoming of the spring by the driving force on the meter shaft, the releasing member rolls on the gear wheel and effects an uncoupling and partial unstressing of the spring, until the member is stopped by its backward movement and the spring is again coupled to the gear wheel. In the form shown the releasing member comprises a star 24 secured to a gear wheel 23 in mesh with the wheel 15, the releasing member being carried by the arm 17 of a two-armed lever loosely mounted on the shaft 14. The inner end of the spring 20 is secured to a pin 19 on the lever, while the outer end of the spring is hooked into one of a pluralitv of slots 22 in a scale drum 12 carried by hub 9 mounted in a hole 7 in a plate 5 fixed to the frame 4 of the meter. A pin 8 screwed into the hub holds the latter in position, a spring 11 providing friction between the hub and the plate 5. One arm of the star 24 normally rests against a spring stop 26 and prevents rotation of the gear wheel 15 until the driving force on the meter shaft 1 overcomes the force of the spring 20. When this occurs, the gear wheel is set in rotation in the direction shown by the arrow 27, and the lever 17 is moved with stressing of the spring 20 until the arm of the star slips off the stop 26. The lever is then moved backwards by the spring and the gear wheel 23 rolls on the wheel 15 until the next arm of the star strikes the stop 26. The tension of the spring may be adjusted approximately by connecting it to the appropriate slot 22, in the drum 12, and a fine adjustment can then be obtained by turning the drum by means of a screwdriver engaging a slot 28 on the pin 8.
