[Class 27.] Price-changing mechanism.-In a prepayment meter provided with price-changing means, movement of an operating handle 2 through a fixed rotation of 180‹ is transmitted through a spring 17<a>, and ratchet-and-pawl mechanism 18, 19, to the coin side 32 of differential quantity mechanism 33, movement of the pawl being limited by an adjustable stop 23<a> which is set according to the price of the commodity. Insertion of a coin couples the handle 2 with a shaft 1 by means not shown, so that movement is transmitted through gears 3, 4 to a mutilated gear 10 which is turned through 360‹. The pawl 18 is carried by an arm 17 fast with a sleeve 12 loose on shaft 1, and during initial movement of gear 10, movement is positively transmitted to the arm 17 and a gear 11 loose on sleeve 12 by engagement of pins 13, 14, 16; subsequently pin 13 disengages pin 16, and the arm 17 is driven through the spring 17a by engagement of the gears 10, 11. The stop 23a is set by rotation of a shaft 25 carrying a scale 26 and locking wheel 27. The commodity side 39 of the differential mechanism 33 is driven from a meter or time shaft 47 by engagement of a pinion 49 with either of gears 50, 51, which provide different gear ratios between the shaft 47 and gear 41 and permit the scale of charges to be extended.
