445,348. Mowing-machines. COUPE, F., The Garage, Chorley Road, Walton-le-Dale, Preston, and HODGE, H., Triggs Farm, Higher Wheelton, and CLAYTON, J., Back Lane, Brindle, Chorley, both in Lancashire. Oct. 3, 1934, No. 28253. [Class 6 (iii)] An ordinary two-horse mowing-machine is combined with a motor car or motor lorry to constitute a motor driven mower. The rear axle a of the vehicle is clamped against the chassis frame b by U-bolts the springs being removed ; the rear wheels are detached, chain sprockets c being substituted therefor. The cross shaft c carrying the brake links e<1> is detached and replaced further forward so as to leave a clear space for the mower. The draught pole of the mower is removed and the mower positioned below the chassis in front of the rear axle of the car being connected to the chassis by a U- shaped member h pivoted at h<1> to the chassis and a pin i in a bearing block il on the axle of the mower ; a draw rod j extends from the axle casing g to the chassis and the usual draw bar is replaced by a Z-shaped member l. A wooden ring p is clamped over the spokes of each wheel of the mower and a sprocket ring q driven from the corresponding sprocket c clamped to the ring. The driver's seat on the vehicle is moved forwardly to allow him to have the knife in his field of vision. The link for retaining the cutter bar in raised position is carried by a bracket b<2> and a platform a for carrying goods or for knife holders for use in sharpening the blades is fitted at the rear of the machine.
