Abstract
445,121. Gate - operating appliances. SPENCE, W. L., 31, Warwick Place, Leaming- ton, Warwickshire. Oct. 11, 1934, Nos. 29088/34 and 24199/35. [Class 65 (i)] A gate K of the pole and curtain type is operated by approaching vehicles by means of ramps A, A<1> resting on the horizontal arm B of an L-shaped member L sliding vertically on the gate post G, and connected by a chain &c. C and spring H to the lever end J of the gate pole K pivoted at K<1>. After the vehicle has passed, gravity lowers the gate and raises the ramps. To prevent the gate being opened by cattle, a striker bar P is arranged to be pushed forward and depressed by a vehicle wheel, thereby pulling a stop plate Q from under a leg R on the bar B before the bar can be depressed.
