444,897. Covering cores by winding ; threads. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, ROBERTS, R. P., KIMPTON, W. H., and DINGLEY, R. M., c /o British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. Sept. 28, 1934, No. 27827. [Class 109] [See also Group IX] Apparatus for making cored threads comprises a stationary hollow spindle 27 for supporting a bobbin 18, a ring-and-traveller device 22, 25 co-axial with the spindle, a rotatable disc 26 co-axial with the spindle and spaced from the ring-and-traveller device, and a knob 28 on the end of the spindle. A rotatable tube 19 on the spindle 27 serves to support the bobbin and the disc 26. The let-off bobbin 4 for the core rests on a drum 6 driven at constant speed by friction gears 8. The take-up drum 9 is similarly driven. An elastic core may be covered with cotton, wool or silk, or with artificial materials such as cellulose acetate silk or viscose silk. Alternatively, a cellulose acetate &c. core thread may be covered with metallic tape or tinsel, e.g., copper or imitation gold tape.
