Abstract

444,604. Cycle frames. CHURCHILL, R., 70, Ramilies Road, and HARTLEY, R. H., 17, Garthdale Road, both in Liverpool. Dec. 15, 1934, No. 36030. [Class 136 (iii)] In order to reduce whip or side sway, a cycle frame is provided with a brace member 17, which is secured between the seat stay 10 and the seat tube 11 and is preferably continued to the down tube 12, and which lies wholly in the vertical plane containing the chain drive 16. The brace member 17 may be permanently connected to the frame by brazing &c., or may be detachably connected thereto by clips, threaded connections, &c. As shown, transverse brackets 18, 19, 20, brazed or welded to the frame, have sleeve-like ends to receive the brace member 17. The member 17 may be of elliptical form and of a width sufficient to lie above the chain when the latter is displaced from one to another of a multiple system of rear sprockets of a variablespeed gear.
