Abstract
444,519. Cigarette - making machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO., 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A. May 24, 1935, No. 15149. Convention date, Feb. 8. [Class 130] In a continuous-rod, machine the cigarette rod C is carried past a pasting wheel 5 to a sealing band by a tape T supported in a channel in a block 12 and the pasted edge of the paper strip P is bent over the unpasted edge by a lap former 13 and a block 14. To prevent surplus paste squeezed from the seam coming into contact with either the edge T<11> of the tape or with the lap former a longitudinally extending gap is provided between the lap former 13 and the block 14 adjacent the outer edge of the seam. To spread the edges of the tape sufficiently to clear the edges of the sealing element, a second lengthwise gap is provided on the opposite side of the seam to the first gap ; the second gap is formed between a cut-away portion 13b of the block 13 and an edge 15b on an angular bar 15 secured to the block 13. The edge 15b of the bar diverges from the edge 15a to guide the edge of the tape into the gap.
