Abstract

In a process for the removal of hydrogen sulphide and other sulphur impurities from gases, particularly coal distillation gases by alkaline washing solutions containing arsenic antimony or tin, e.g. sulphur-arsenic-oxygen compounds, a small quantity of manganese and/or copper compounds are added to the solution. Sulphur is formed on regeneration of the solution by air. Manganese or copper may be added as chlorides, or copper may be added by forming the washing apparatus of metal known by the Registered Trade Mark "Monel" by reaction of the solutions. Specifications 280,165 and 286,633, [both in Class 1 (iii)], are referred to.
