Abstract
324,685. Tamaru, S., and Koizumi, Y. Sept. 3. 1928. Alkali and alkaline earth stannates; tin sulphate.-Material containing tin in oxide form, such as cassiterite or tin-bearing tungsten ores is heated, say at 850‹ C., with a base of an alkaline earth metal (including magnesium) in the presence of a small amount of a reducing agent, such as coal, charcoal, oil, tin, zinc, hydrogen, or carbon monoxide. By leaching the product with sulphuric acid or an alkali tin compounds free from iron and silica are obtained. A salt such as sodium chloride may be added to the charge or to the alkali used for leaching, to assist extraction. When the material contains organic matter, or a reducing atmosphere is used, no reducing agent need be added.
