Abstract
In a process of directly obtaining lead from sulphide ores or concentrates by melting with soda and a reducing agent such as carbon or coke, a part of the soda is replaced by sodium chloride and an oxide of zinc or iron. The addition of zinc or iron oxides may be effected by completely or partially composing the mixture to be treated from poor ores having a content of up to 20 per cent of foreign metals such as zinc, iron, copper, nickel and cobalt.
