Abstract

An adhesive which may be applied cold consists essentially of an aqueous solution of glue, gelatine or a similar water-soluble nitrogenous colloid, with at least 5 per cent of a phenol or substituted phenol or an inorganic salt of a phenol. A water-soluble solvent such as methylated spirit may be added. For application to a waxed surface, a wax solvent, e.g. a mixture of toluene and trichlorethylene may be added, and the glue may be emulsified in the said solvent. For application to sheets of cellulose derivatives, solvents or swelling agents for the said derivatives may be added, e.g. "Tetraline" (Registered Trade Mark), "Decaline" (Registered Trade Mark), chloroform, benzol or butyl acetate; in this case also the glue may be emulsified.
