Abstract

442,882. Glass manufacture. PURSER, E. J. JOBLING-, Wear Glass Works, Sunderland. Aug. 17, 1934, No. 23730. [Class 56] A method of preventing moulded heatresisting glassware from breaking, when exposed to rapid changes of temperature, consists in reheating the ware locally while it is still in a plastic state in order to remove the shear mark. Preferably, an oxy-gas flame is used for reheating, and the operation is conducted while a glass article is still in the mould and as soon as possible after the plunger has been removed. The flame is applied to the glass in the region of the shear mark until surface irregularities are sealed up, rounded over, or removed.
