510,081. Fusing and working quartz. SKAUPY, F., and WEISSENBERG, G. J. Dec. 20, 1937, No. 17859/39. Divided out of and addition to 508,013. [Class 56] Relates to the method of making articles of vitreous sintered quartz (described in the parent Specification), according to which the material is so heated that it does not remain longer than 15 minutes within the region of cristobalite formation, particularly 1470‹-1710‹C. According to the present invention, the material is heated to the temperature range in question for a period which is longer than 15 minutes according to the type of material employed or the nature of the binder used, but not long enough to cause the formation of any substantial proportion of cristobalite. The moulded material may be preheated, immediately before sintering.
