Abstract

442,577. Discharge lamps. JORGENSEN, S. H. WILLIAM-, 7, Gotavagen, Djursholm, Sweden. July 16, 1935, No. 20248. [Class 39 (i)] The electrodes of a glow tube for advertising, illumination and the like comprise conductors extending longitudinally along the tube and carrying flat electrode members mounted at right-angles to them and having their edges near the inner wall of the tube. In one form, the members consist of circular or square plates secured alternately to each of two rods running longitudinally of the tube and having recesses to allow the rod to which they are not connected to pass clear. In a modification, each electrode consists of a strip 1 and discs 3, 3<1> stamped from sheet metal, the arms 4 of the discs 3 being twisted as at 41 and the arms 5 of the discs 3<1> being bent round the strip 1 through 180‹ and then twisted so that the discs 3<1>, 311 are parallel. In another modification each electrode comprises a wire having straight portions alternating with ring portions lying in the plane perpendicular to the straight portions. The longitudinal members may be lacquered or otherwise insulated and each may be provided with supports for the members of the other electrode.
