[Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] A sign constructed with a plurality of gas or vapour filled tubes in the form of sign characters and adapted to become luminescent on electrical excitation has electrodes extending the length of the tubes and arranged spaced apart parallel to one another and outside the gasfilled space, one electrode being applied to the outside of, or enclosed in the material of, the tube and the other applied similarly or separate from the tube. An external electrode may be common to a number of tubes, and the tubes may be interchangeably supported for electrical connection through sockets on a base board, or may hang on busbars, or may be supported by a magnet engaging a bar of magnetic material fixed to the tube. Fig. 1 shows a tube a of V- form having external electrodes b connected to a terminal b<SP>1</SP> of a socket and electrodes c parallel to the electrodes b and connected to a terminal c<SP>2</SP> of the socket. Fig. 4 shows a tube with one electrode c curved and extended externally to form a reflector. Fig. 6 shows tubes a each carrying one electrode b, the other electrode c being formed by a plate common to several tubes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes tubes with electrodes on the interior. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
