Abstract
Knock-stable motor fuels are obtained by the destructive hydrogenation of liquid hydrocarbons containing constituents boiling above 200 DEG C. and rich in cyclic hydrocarbons, e.g. middle oil obtained from bituminous coal, by subjecting the initial materials to destructive hydrogenation in presence of a strongly hydrogenating and splitting catalyst so that a strong formation of benzines occurs, but at least 10 per cent of constituents boiling above 200 DEG C. remain in the liquid reaction product, and subjecting these constituents at high temperatures to a further destructive hydrogenation in presence of a dehydrogenating and splitting catalyst so that benzines containing aromatic constituents are obtained, and mixing the benzines obtained in both stages. In the first stage sulphides, e.g. tungsten sulphide, are specified as catalysts and the initial material is treated at 390--440 DEG C. for 40--80 seconds with a circulation of 3--6 cubic metres of hydrogen per kilogram of initial material. In the second stage (aromatization stage) oxides of the 6th group mixed with zinc oxide are specified as catalysts and the material is treated at 450--600 DEG C. for 80--120 seconds with a circulation of 1--1,5 cubic metres of hydrogen. Part of the product of the first stage may be recirculated to that stage.
