Abstract
442,309. Centrifugal machines. BROADBENT & SONS, Ltd., T., Central Ironworks, and HOLMES, N., 29, Sheepridge Road, Sheepridge, both in Huddersfield. Oct. 22, 1934, No. 30167. [Class 23] The mechanism associated with a cover-locking device for a centrifugal machine includes a pivoted member m which is rocked from its normal position by the rotating flange n<1>, if any attempt is made to release the lock while the machine is running; and this rocking prevents the mechanism from being effective. The cover b carries a bolt d pressed outwards by a spring f to engage the fixed part e on the casing a. A hand lever g is pivoted to the bolt and to one end of a rod h, the other end of which is pivoted to one arm of an angle lever supported on a fixed pivot J<1> and carrying a pin j<2> on which is supported the member m. The flange n<1> rotates with the bowl spindle c and is in close proximity to the end of the member m. When the machine is stationary and the lever g is operated to withdraw the bolt, the member m engages the disc n<1> and the pivot g<1> at the junction of the lever g and the rod h serves as a fixed fulcrum. If however, the attempt be made while the machine is running, the member m will be rocked, as shown in Fig. 3, by the disc n<1> so that the fulcrum g<1> yields while the bolt remains stationary. In a modification the control member m swings in a horizontal plane instead of a vertical plane.
